CONDUCT GUIDELINES FOR PLAYERS
- Players are to arrive in a suitable time to ensure they are ready at the table at the
appointed time to commence the match.
- Players must meet the dress standards that may be laid down from time to time.
Competitors, who evidently show overindulgence in alcohol at the commencement of,
or during a match, shall not be permitted to play, or continue to play.
- Players shall not visit the toilet at frequent intervals (often used as gamesmanship)
unless there is a medical condition, in which case this should be made known to the
opposing captain, the opponent and to the referee before the match commences.
- Players shall not place the chalk on the cushion rail or on the table before playing a
shot.
- At the conclusion of a break the striker shall immediately vacate the table and not
procrastinate over a missed shot.
- The striker shall not take an unwarranted amount of time over a shot or the selection
of a shot, for by doing so the player may face the possibility of being warned by the
referee for time wasting.
- The striker shall not dispute a referee’s decision but may ask for an explanation.
Depending on the incident and the explanation the striker may then suggest the
referee consult an official or a spectator best placed to observe the incident. The
referee’s next decision is final.
- The striker shall not refuse to continue playing when instructed to do so by the
referee; nor shall the striker berate or continue to berate the referee by actions,
words or aside comments to others. Such actions may be referred to the Committee.
- The non-striker shall:
- Sit or stand without causing disruption by sound or movement,
- Not stand in the striker’s line of vision or in close proximity to the table,
- Take particular care when chalking a cue or drinking or pouring from a glass when
the striker is about to play a stroke or when is in the arc of vision,
- Not engage in unreasonable or loud conversation with members of the audience.
These guidelines are really just showing courtesy towards your opponent and his team, and
displaying good sportsmanship.
Adherence to these guidelines will help to ensure an enjoyable competitive match.
